You can read to your baby age by age
Your baby’s stage will make reading new and exciting for you.
From 0-3 Months, your newborn will experience rapid growth and adjustment to their environment. The ability to read gives your baby the chance to improve their sight. Therefore, board books featuring high-contrast color such as black and red are appropriate and stimulating. Sit on an armchair with your baby during waketimes and read 1-2 books per day. Your baby can look at all the photographs.
4-6 Months: At this age, babies will be alerter and more in tune with the world. They will interact more than they did in their newborn phase and be more familiar with the routines and everyday activities of your household. This is one my favorite phases! Reading takes on an important role in your child’s life. Your baby will be captivated by vivid colors and vibrant pictures. This stage is the best time to start short boards books, with only 1-2 sentences per pages. They will become fascinated by the world and be curious about what you have to offer. You can give them Indestructibles or durable boards books. There are also sensory books with different textures that they can use.
7-9 months: Your baby will have more mobility and be interested in books. These are great times to start introducing pictures that help teach colors, animals, and more. The perfect time is now to begin reading pictures with baby faces in picture books. Babies love to see their faces. This age is when your baby will not be able or able to stay still, so you should read them short chapters throughout the day.
10-12 Months – As they approach their first birthday, your baby will get more into what you read. Your baby might not be the most active of babies, but they will enjoy being read to. At this age, I love to get some books with longer words and alphabets.
Despite this, I prefer to read at a level above that of my children so I would recommend any book for my baby as soon as she is 3 months.
Do you have any great recommendations for books that your baby would enjoy? Although it was difficult to pick just 25, here is my selection of 25 top baby books that will help your baby start school.
