Most Popular Novels Of The Decade

Friends, it’s true: the end of the decade approaches. Although it has been an anxious, stressful, and morally challenged decade, there have been some pretty good literature. We’ll take our silver linings where we can.

As is our duty as a website specializing in literary and cultural websites, but with full knowledge of the potential fruitless nature and infinitely disputable nature of this task over the next few weeks, we will be looking at some of the most significant (but not always the exact same) books from the past decade. The list will vary, but we’ll do it. To begin, we started with the greatest debut novels. Best short story collections. Best poetry. Collections of memoirs. Then came best (other) nonfiction. And finally, the best translated novels. Now we are at the eighth and most challenging list: The very best English novels published between 2010-2019.

You may be shocked to learn that we had a hard time deciding on 10. As captains of our own destiny we decided that we could pick from 20. . . Plus almost as many dissents. Reissues were not allowed, as you would expect this list to include Speedboat, The Last Samurai and Who Was Changed, Who Was Dead and a host of other titles. This list also included novels in translation. These books were added to our list last week. It would have been twice as long. Sweet Days of Discipline by my beloved Sweet Days of Discipline was one of the most popular novels this decade. I write the introductions. Now, for the last time: the following books were chosen after much debate (and several rounds of voting) by the Literary Hub staff. It was a messy process. There were tears shed, there were feelings of hurt and many books were re-read. Please feel free to leave any comments about your favorite book or other favorites we haven’t covered.
