However, if one is received, how do you cash it? There are locations close to where you live. Here is what you need to know.
What is the best place to cash a USPS money order in 2022?
The United States Postal Service can issue money orders that may be cashed at a variety of places, such as banks, Post Offices, grocery stores and convenience store chains. Check-cashing points are also available. You will need to pay a fee if you want USPS money order cashed by the Post Office.
The following list includes locations for your USPS money order to be cashed, deposited, and banks.
Post Office locations – The Post Office obviously cashes their own money orders, and bonus: they do it for free.
Bank of America- If you already have an account, this bank will cash your money orders.
Capital One – Another huge financial institution that will only cash your money order if you have an account with them.
You must also have at minimum the amount shown on your money order if you would like to receive money in cash.
If not, you can deposit the money order into your account.
Fifth Third Bank — These branches will cash an order for money even if you don’t have a bank account.
Chase Bank: To withdraw cash you must open an account.
Regions: Non-account holder can cash out money orders at Regions for a five-percent fee.
PNC Bank – A regional chain based out of Pittsburgh, you must have an account with this bank to cash your money order. You may need to be aware of some restrictions.
Wells Fargo is another bank that requires you to have an account. You can make only a deposit and the time the money order clears will depend on how much you pay.
Check-cashing options include United Check Cashing, Money Mart, and Check Into Cash. There are also locations where the fees can be quite high.
Albertsons grocery stores: Check the website or call ahead to ensure your location cashes money orders.
Kroger grocery shops: There are over 2700 Kroger locations across the U.S. Some Kroger stores can cash money orders at a nominal fee. Check beforehand to make sure.
What banks accept USPS money orders?
Yes, many banks do cash USPS money orders.
Some banks require accounts, including Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. However, they may not cash money orders until you open an account.
Some of these require that the cash order be in cash form.
If your bank has a cashier, they can be used to cash the USPS money orders.
You can check your bank’s site or inquire next time you go to find out if they offer money order cashing. Most likely, it’s free.
Some banks, like the Regions chain, will allow non-account holders to cash money orders at their locations, but you’ll pay a fee.
I believe that non-accountholders’ USPS money order are more reliable than checking-cashing outlets.
