Best Sat Prep Books
Disclaimer: The Reasons I Recommend Sat Books
You’re probably wondering why PrepScholar, known for its online SAT prep program , is going old school and recommending an SAT book list.
As SAT professionals who are passionate about helping students pass the exam, our team is dedicated to providing the best possible resources so that you can achieve your academic as well as personal goals. If you’re self-motivated and prefer using SAT books in your prep, then they can be a great way to learn content, practice strategies, and try out sample questions.
That being said, all the SAT prep books recommended below have strengths and weaknesses. Many of the books seem rushed and don’t have the same quality as previous editions.
PrepScholar’s online program has incorporated many of the most valuable parts from these books while still providing accountability. Help you set and maintain a study plan. Keep track of how your progress is going. Practice problem types and sharpen your skills to help improve your marks.
PrepScholar allows you to personalize your study plans to suit your individual needs. However, prep books are not the best option. PrepScholar is also more economical than buying all those books due to the immense benefits you’ll get.
This is because we don’t get any benefit from the SAT-book recommendations. However, our advice is neutral and objective.
After that, let’s look at our list of SAT-related books. The best representation of SAT-related questions comes directly from test takers. I am starting my list by using the College Board’s Official SAT Study Guide.
Best Traditional Sat Prep Books For Instruction, Strategy, And Practice Questions
The following SAT prep guides are good but not great. This list contains the very best books for practice and content review. Let’s go over the pros and cons of each.
I’d highly recommend SAT Prep Black Book due to its excellent strategies and advice. The SAT Black Book, as it’s called, was written by Mike Barrett, who’s taken the time to understand the test inside and out. It covers the types of questions as well as critical tips like how to spot tricky wording or “distractors” answers.
The book will be of great value to students interested in learning about the structure and format of the SAT and those looking for practical tips and strategies for answering questions, saving time, and saving money.
It provides thorough answer explanations for questions on the first four official SAT practice tests. This guide will walk you through all questions on the practice tests, and explain any errors.
You can use it to change your attitude when you take the SAT. You can incorporate the book’s explanations and strategies into your own approach so that you’re more confident when answering each question type. However, the Black Book does not provide much help in understanding concepts.
You won’t find any SAT questions in this book. Instead, the book must be used in conjunction with the official SAT practice tests. It contains detailed explanations and answers to all official SAT questions. You will need another resource if you want to learn sentence parallelism linear function.
Although I find this book to be written in a pretty engaging style, this is entirely a matter of opinion; in other words, Barrett’s explanation style and test strategies might not work for everyone.
Discover Your Career Fit
Lantern’s Career Quiz allows you to match career options with your characteristics.
To do well on the SAT, it takes a lot more than just studying and practicing. It is possible to prepare for the SAT by using the most effective SAT prep books. Students also can become more familiar with how the test will go.
Below is a collection of the best SAT prep books. Remember that there is no magic bullet. Although these books are great for helping you prepare for your test, it is not the same as studying.
If the cost of SAT prep materials is prohibitive, you should check with your school. There are many free resources online that you can use.
What is the Best Thing About The Guide To The Top Sat Books?
The SAT score is very important in order to be considered for admission to college. The wrong advice can lead to a loss of SAT scores.
It is best to review any advice that you are given (including ours), before you decide on your SAT Prep Plan. Ask yourself this question before you start reading every article. “Why should I believe that person who is giving me SAT information online?” This is the right place to answer this question. We believe this SAT prep guide book is far superior than the ones you could find on the internet.
Here I discuss why certain SAT book are great and the weaknesses of each. These prep books are probably unfamiliar to you. They are often less popular or not as well-known as the books of larger companies. While most SAT book guides only list a handful of books, we provide all the information that you require before you buy a book.
I think it is crucial that you focus your strengths and know where to practice. I will point out SAT books which are most suitable for training on specific sections as well as books that suit high or low scorers. Other guides assume that all students are the same, but we tailor ours to a variety of test-taker levels.
This SAT book promotion does not pay me any money. None of the authors are my friends. I know that I’ve read dozens upon dozens of SAT prep book, so these books are what I would use if I was prepping. Reviews.com and about.com get kickbacks or rankings adjustments from publishers in exchange for featuring prep books.
It’s nice to believe that I understand what I am talking about. I scored two perfect scores on the SAT and have worked directly with thousands of students prepping for the SAT. From those scoring 800+ to those trying for 1530+, I have helped them all. Others writers aren’t qualified to tell the difference between good and poor SAT books and recommend books only afterthought.
PrepScholar, which is an online SAT/ACT prep school, has one important caveat. Our SAT prep program is the best. It diagnoses your strengths and weaknesses and gives you a structured all-in-one guide, combining the best aspects of the SAT books below so you can know exactly what to study at every point in your prep.
Who Does This Sat Prep Books Book Guide Serve?
First, it is intended to be used by students who want to prepare for test.
For a good score you have to be enthusiastic and determined. Getting through these books will take dozens of hours simply because the SAT covers so much material.
Your choice of book will not matter if you are only studying for five hours. You should concentrate your study on the official SAT practice test, reviewing all of your answers. With such little prep time, your score won’t go up much in the end, so don’t expect any miracles.
The first step in SAT preparation is to buy SAT prep books. However, it will take hard work and dedication to get the score improvement you seek. We will show you how to make the most of every SAT book that we suggest.
The second target audience for this guide are students who aim to score more than 100. This guide will help you understand how to consistently score better on the SAT. Do not waste your time with useless “tricks,” which will make it appear that you have learned something, when in fact you don’t.
If you’re only looking to improve your score by 50 points or so, however, it’s possible for you to do this just by retaking the SAT , especially if you’ve taken the test only once.
A good study plan is essential to increase your score in SAT preparation books. It isn’t enough to just read a book cover to cover you must focus on your weaknesses by brushing up on the content you struggle with the most.
The 2021-2022 Best Sat Prep Book
No matter what your weaknesses or strengths, these are essential SAT books that you must have.
Subject-Specific Books: These are by far the best books to use to better your SAT Reading, Math, and Writing skills.
Books for Top Scoring Students: These SAT Prep books are sure to help you reach your goals and achieve the highest score.
Book for low scorers or those with little motivation: These books will work if you are only looking to learn for a couple of hours, and to improve your SAT scores slightly. Avoid them otherwise.
This is the #1 book to avoid: I no longer recommend the old version of SAT. It’s now on my “Do not Buy” list. Learn why.
The format of the SAT has changed significantly in 2016. I don’t recommend that you use old SAT books for studying the new SAT. Although older SAT practice tests do share some similarities with newer ones, you’ll waste a lot of time studying for the wrong topics and questions if you don’t know exactly how the old SAT differs from the current SAT Therefore, always use books that target the current SAT (that is, books published in 2016 or later), such as the ones listed below. You can also use our online SAT prep program to learn more about your specific weaknesses and how you can improve them.
Prep Books for Critical Sat Prep
These are the books all test-takers need regardless of how they score on the SAT or their skills. This is a high standard and only two books of the many I tested have met it. These are the details.
We’ve written at length about the importance of official SAT practice questions. You might be aware that the SAT tests ideas in a way you never saw in school. This is why you need to train using realistic questions in order learn how the patterns work.
The College Board’s official SAT test is the best for practicing questions. At present, there are 10 official tests. These tests don’t constitute a pre-test book, but together they can be a very useful resource.
Each test contains real questions given to actual students on previous administrations of the SAT. It is clear that official questions have a higher quality than questions from non-official sources, such as Kaplan and Barron’s.
You can even get all the official SAT practice test for free. These PDFs are available on the College Board website. To get an authentic on-paper test experience, print the tests.
This is the ultimate set of SAT preparation tests. If you want to take a full-length practice test, these are absolutely the ones you should use first.
The test files can all be downloaded for absolutely free.
Best Sat Math Prep Book
I believe that learning the underlying material is the best way for you to improve your SAT Math score. While you can make progress by learning strategies to solve math problems and becoming familiar with the basics of math, you will quickly hit a brick wall if your math knowledge is not up-to-date.
Therefore, it is a good idea to search for a book that covers math topics in an organized fashion and provides practice problems so you can focus on your specific skills. It should also cater to your skill level since math questions that are too hard or easy for you will be a waste of time.
These are the reasons I highly recommend Steve Warner’s series SAT Math books. He has written several SAT preparation books, including one for intermediate students and an advanced student. His set includes 240 SAT Math puzzles, each organized according to difficulty.
Math lessons are easy to understand and can be very helpful. These lessons will help increase your speed in solving problems and assist you to understand the meaning of a question.
The practice questions have realistic answers and good explanations.
Customizing your SAT Math practice by skill level is important. If you’re scoring below 600, there’s no reason to focus on attacking the hardest questions on the test. Warner’s books offer appropriate practice according to your level of math.
Too many books offer too much information, so it is hard to pinpoint the math concepts we need to use. Our SAT program divides vast topics into smaller areas. For example, in algebra we cover linear functions and single-variable equations. Focusing on one skill per week will help you pinpoint and practice your weaknesses.
Kaplan’S Sat Prep plus
Kaplan’s SAT Prep Plus provides a thorough overview of the test, including how it functions and the kinds of questions you should expect across all sections. It also offers a broad range of practice questions and five full-length practice exams, in addition to detailed sections covering content review.
You will find over 1,400 question types in the book. Kaplan’s practice material was very real and helped me to predict what I would find on the actual exam. You can access online videos tutorials as well.
Kaplan, an internationally respected prep company excels at being thorough and concise. And that’s exactly what Kaplan’s SAT Prep Plus gives you, so you’ll be able to approach the SAT with confidence.
There is one downside to the book. Experts find it a little too challenging. It is still a great book for SAT Math, English, Reading, and other topics. This book’s sheer scope puts it above other study guides. It is also a good refresher or overview to be used together with other books.
