Safeway has a reputation for being a friendly and accommodating shop.
Safeway allows customers to make returns or exchanges on most of their merchandise, as long as they have the receipt and are returning their purchases to the store location they originally shopped at. You can return perishable as well as non-perishable products, but not alcohol or baby formula.
What if I don’t have a receipt?
Safeway requires that all customers return their merchandise within 30 days of receipt. If customers do not have their receipt, they can make an exchange.
They may request a refund if the associate at the counter is unable to locate the transaction by computer.
Safeway will replace the return with a Safeway gift card if they cannot locate proof of purchase.
Additionally, if the refund being requested is $5 or less, the store manager may approve a cash refund.
Are there any time limits on Safeway’s returns?
Safeway does not have a company-wide time limit for making returns as each return is handled on a case-by-case basis, depending on the type of product a customer is returning.
Store managers will use their own discretion when determining what a reasonable amount of time is for making a return.
A non-perishable product may be granted a longer grace period than a meat, produce or other perishable goods.
To ensure full reimbursement, customers should bring in their purchased items as quickly as possible, due to the unknown return time limits.
Does Safeway Charge for Returns?
Safeway will not charge its customers to make returns or exchanges after 2022.
Customers who request a refund or exchange will only be reimbursed if the receipt they received is valid.
Safeway: How do I return my product?
If a customer needs to make a return at Safeway, they can do so at the customer service/reception desk.
Customers can only return products to the Safeway location where they were purchased. You cannot return items to Safeway locations that you have not purchased from.
You may find that the hours of customer service at Safeway are different than those in the other locations.
Call the store before sending your return items.
What Products Can I Return to Safeway?
Safeway permits both perishable, and non-perishable items for return to their stores.
All food products are acceptable for return, including meats, fruits, vegetables, milk products and any other perishables.
Both consumables, as well non-consumables can be considered perishable. There are no restrictions on cleaning products, hygiene and kitchen wares. You may return them or exchange them.
Safeway recommends that perishables be returned as quickly as possible to avoid delays.
Safeway can also approve of the return or exchange of flowers within the flower department.
However, individual store managers may have the final say. Refunds may or may not be granted depending on why the product was returned.
Safeway does not accept returns on certain products
While Safeway will accept most products for return, they currently do not accept alcohol or baby formula for return.
Safeway does not accept gift card returns, exchanges or refunds. They are considered to be merchandise.
Safeway each has its own return policy. This means that some Safeway locations might not accept any returns of expired meat, dairy products or other spoilt food.
To ensure a return, customers should immediately send any perishables back to us.
What can I do to return items to Safeway Starbucks?
Safeway Starbucks will allow you to return any cups, packets of coffee, tea, or food, provided they’re not used and received within 30 business days.
Starbucks can make any beverage that is not as good as the original, but customers cannot legally return it.
Customers must dispose of their previous drink immediately, because they are unable to take back the drinks given. The exact procedure may vary from kiosk to kiosk.
Safeway Starbucks demands that customers have receipts in order for them to process returns. Because not all kiosks are able to view previous transactions,
Some kiosks will allow customers to receive store credit back if they don’t have receipts. But this is subject to change by kiosk.
Starbucks gift card are eligible to be returned, provided that the receipt is from the original transaction.
Clearance merchandise is also available for return and exchange, provided that they are not marked with a final sale sticker.
Does the Safeway Pharmacy Accept Returns?
Safeway cannot take returns from retail customers. Returns of items purchased from the pharmacy such as hygiene product must be made at customer service.
Safeway Pharmacy in British Columbia (Canada) says they offer a service where patients can dispose of any medications that have been discontinued or are not being used anymore.
Safeway cannot offer a refund for any medication returned by customers. They are not able to issue prescription reimbursements.
Safeway Canada offers a different Return Policy
Safeway Canada’s return policy is exactly the same as that in the USA.
Safeways Canada doesn’t sell alcohol like US shops. There is not a statement on the Safeways’ return policy regarding alcohol returns.
